The IAI exists to promote contact, collaboration and co-operation between professional archaeologists and organisations in Ireland, and to promote discussion and action on practical and academic archaeological issues.

It aims to improve archaeological standards through professional guidelines, the adoption of a Code of Practice and the promotion of continued professional development of its members.
