The objective of the Arboricultural Association is "to advance the science of Arboriculture for the public benefit". This objective is met through the holding of conferences and seminars and the publication of a range of journals, leaflets, newsletters, guidance notes etc.

Of particular importance is the publication of an annual updated directory, the Directory of Approved Contractors and Registered Consultants. Rigorous standards of assessment are applied to anyone who qualifies to be entered in either directory.
