The Church of Scotland has a distinctive call and duty to bring the ordinances of Christian religion to the people in every parish of Scotland through a territorial ministry.

Proposals for alterations to church buildings which affect their appearance must be referred to the Committee on Church Art and Architecture for its approval. CARTA advises on the most appropriate way of carrying out renovations, alterations and reordering of interiors to maintain architectural quality.
