GOVERNMENT BODY, IRELAND

Fáilte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority for Ireland, was formed in 2003 to increase the contribution of tourism to the economy by facilitating the development of a competitive and profitable tourism industry.

The body operates two heritage grant programs: the Heritage Fund which is designed to support small-scale projects (i.e. less than €200,000); and the Upgrade of Existing Visitor Attractions program for projects of €250k+.

The Heritage Fund provides up to 80% funding for restoration/preservation works and other capital works that would enhance the visitor experience (so general presentation, orientation and interpretation works could all qualify). Product categories which qualify include Heritage Properties, Historic Houses and Gardens. For guidelines and the application form see www.failteireland.ie/capitalgrants.
