Historic England is the public body responsible for England's historic environment. We update and maintain the National Heritage List for England, provide expert advice to help care for and protect historic places and carry out high-quality applied research to support the protection and management of the historic environment. Our purpose is to improve people’s lives by protecting and championing the historic environment.

This is Historic England's regional office for the East of England, providing advice and guidance for local authorities, owners and other organisations. It gives expert advice on specific cases and works with other heritage sector organisations from the community and private sectors.
