In 2015 English Heritage separated into two organisations: Historic England, which is the new public body responsible for England's historic environment, and English Heritage, a charity which looks after the national heritage collection of more than 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites across England.

This is Historic England's regional office for the North East, providing advice and guidance for local authorities, owners and other organisations. It gives expert advice on specific cases and works with other heritage sector organisations from the community and private sectors.
