NHIG is dedicated to the safeguarding and preservation of historic ironwork, promoting high standards of craftsmanship, conservation and repair and working towards the development of:

• Accreditation for conservation blacksmiths
• Guidelines on specification of restoration work
• Resource centre for ironwork information
• Courses in ironwork conservation for practitioners & specifiers

In other conservation disciplines practitioners are expected to prove themselves by achieving some kind of accreditation. The field of heritage ironwork deserves no less.
